‘THE SINKING OF THE SS DUNDALK – EXHIBITION’

2018 marked 100 years since the sinking of the SS Dundalk on October 14th 1918 by a German U-Boat, and this exhibition by the County Museum, Dundalk tells this incredible story as well as the life and times of Dundalk during this period. Twenty lives were tragically lost at sea, and these brave men are remembered in this exhibition. This exhibition also documents the importance of the shipping industry between Dundalk and the UK and the part it played in local jobs, local industry and Dundalk’s economy. This was a wonderful project to have been a part of, as it afforded us the opportunity to explore the story, the archives and the rich victorian imagery from this extraordinary period in local history.
