‘THE BIRTH OF A NATION’ THE EVOLUTION OF IRISH NATIONHOOD – 1641 - 1916’

‘The Birth of a Nation’ is the award winning and acclaimed 1916 exhibition produced in association with the County Museum Dundalk. This comprehensive 1916 exhibition incorporated the evolution of the Irish Nationhood from 1641 – 1916, and was the brain child of curator Brian Walsh. This ground breaking exhibition brought together some of the finest collections of original Irish historical documentation in one single exhibition, from personal letters, writings, maps and documents spanning over 400 years. It depicted some of the most influential figures and events in Irish history, and included an original copy of the Irish Proclamation. Opened by then Taoiseach Enda Kenny, this exhibition was an incredible record of changing times for the Irish Nation, and an acknowledgement of the sacrifice by those men and women who shaped that change, and who gave their lives for the fight for Irish Independence.
